Survivor of Osogbo family killed by generator fumes dies

Jumoke, another member of the family of Mary Samuel, a police sergeant, who died with two others in their residence in Osogbo on Thursday, is dead. Jumoke, a mother of two, died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife, late Thursday, after she had been revived at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. The sergeant and one of her children, Abigail, and her grandchild were confirmed dead at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, after they inhaled what was suspected to be fumes from their generator. Jumoke, who was still breathing when the victims were evacuated, was immediately placed on life support and taken to OAUTHC, where she eventually died. Son hacks father to death in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested one Chibuike Nwachukwu for alleged murder of his father, Osita. Nwachukwu reportedly hacked his father to death in the early hours of Friday in their residence at Amuri Community in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state. The spokesperson for the police in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, but said the circumstances under which the crime was committed had yet to be ascertained. EFCC seeks permanent forfeiture of Bola Shagaya’s N1.9bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed an application before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos seeking the permanent forfeiture of N1.9bn belonging to business mogul and socialite, Bola Shagaya. This comes two years after Sunday PUNCH exclusively reported that the EFCC had frozen the bank accounts of Shagaya due to fraudulent activities she allegedly perpetrated in conjunction with Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of the immediate past President. In an EFCC fact sheet made available to Saturday PUNCH on Friday, the commission said it had been able to establish beyond reasonable doubt that the funds, which have been frozen since 2016, were part of a fraudulent N3.3bn oil deal between Shagaya and Mrs. Jonathan. Nigeria’s economy looking good, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said Nigerian economy under his watch was looking good. He, however, promised his administration’s commitment to making it better. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Nigeria, Mr. Jesper Kamp, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. “The Nigerian economy is looking good and we look forward to making it better,” the President told the Danish Ambassador after receiving his Letter of Credence. Buhari said Nigeria welcomed further strengthening of relations with countries, especially in the areas of agriculture and trade. He told the Danish Ambassador that he was pleased that relations between Nigeria and Denmark have remained strong. A man who reportedly sneaked into a mosque to steal an expensive phone has been arrested and charged to court. The police have arraigned two men, Tijani Rasheed, 29, and Tosin Oluwafemi, 30, in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a cellphone from a mosque The prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 28, 2018 around 6am at Odi Iredumi Oke-Atan area, Ile-Ife. Abdullahi said that the accused conspired among themselves to commit the offence. He alleged that the accused persons entered into the mosque located at Odi Iredumi Oke-Atan, Ile-Ife and stole one Itel 2016 valued at N38,000 belonging to one Gani Olihu, while he was praying in the mosque. The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 383, 390 (9), 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002. President Muhammadu Buhari has aimed a dig at those accusing him of attempting to Islamise Nigeria, describing himself as “a descendant of Abraham just like Bishop Crowther”. Mr Buhari said this in an opinion article that earlier appeared on the UK-based Christian Times on Friday. In the article, the president referenced a Biblical verse and argued that Christians and Muslims share the same root, although their belief differs. Congratulations are in order for a Reverend Father who emerged as the best male student from the Nigerian law school. The cleric identified as Rev. Fr. Gabriel Emeasoba of the Lagos Archdiocese, today 29th, November 2018 became an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and was specially recognised. According to reports, the Reverend Father bagged First Class Honour for the fourth time in his academic pursuit. He graduated with a first class in Philosophy (B. Phil), Theology (B.Th), Law (LL.B) and Law (BL) in the Nigerian Law School. The cleric earlier revealed that he attended the Nigerian Law School as a Catholic priest after his degree programme at the University of Lagos. He lived most times in the hostel at the Lagos Campus of the Law School and spent all his weekends in his parish ministering and focusing on things other than law. Congratulations to him.
